Purrier Etches Name in History Books; New Hampshire, Maine Split #AETF Weekly Awards

BOSTON – For the second consecutive week, Elinor Purrier captured the national spotlight in the mile. At the prestigious David Hemery Valentine Invitational, the New Hampshire senior ran the second-fastest mile in NCAA history and now ranks first in the nation in the event. Along with New Hampshire, six other #AETF programs were represented at the meet held at Boston University, the site of the 2018 America East Track and Field Championships.
 
Below are this week’s award winners:

Female Track Performer of the Week
Elinor Purrier, New Hampshire – Sr., Distance, Montgomery, Vt.
  • Ran the fastest indoor mile in the country this season at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
  • Her time of 4:26.55 is the second-fastest time in NCAA history.
  • It is her third consecutive #AETF Performer of the Week award.
 
Male Track Performer of the Week
Jacob Johns, Maine – Sr., Distance, North Andover, Mass.
  • Ran a personal best in the mile at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
  • His time of 4:05.57 ranks second in the conference.
  • It is his first #AETF Performer of the Week award this season.
 
Female Field Performer of the Week
Rachel Bergeron, Maine – Sr., Throws, Waterville, Maine
  • Won the weight throw with a mark of 16.94m in Maine's win over New Hampshire and Husson.
  • Also won the shot put, throwing 11.68m.
  • It is Bergeron’s first Performer of the Week award of the season.
 
Male Field Performer of the Week
Michael Shanahan, New Hampshire – Sr., Throws, Dover, N.H.
  • Won the weight throw at Boston University.
  • His throw of 71’2” was eight feet farther than all other throws.
  • This is Shanahan's sixth Indoor #AETF weekly award of the season.
