#AEWLAX Season Begins as New Hampshire, Binghamton Earn Weekly Awards

BOSTON – The 2018 #AEWLAX season began last weekend as New Hampshire and Binghamton each won their opening games. The Wildcats earned a 14-2 victory over Sacred Heart and the Bearcats outscored Fresno State 14-8 at La Salle.
 
Six America East women’s lacrosse programs will take the field during the upcoming weekend. #2 Stony Brook, who reached the NCAA Quarterfinals last season for the first time in program history, begins their journey on the road at #6 USC. The Seawolves were picked second in the IWLCA Preseason Coaches' Poll and return three 100-point scorers in Courtney Murphy, Taryn Ohlmiller and 2017 Tewaaraton Finalist Kylie Ohlmiller.

Here are the week’s award winners:
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Catherine Sexton, New Hampshire – Jr., Attack, Niskayuna, N.Y.
  • Tallied a career-high six points on two goals and four assists in win over Sacred Heart.
  • Her four assists are a career best.
  • Sexton’s six points on the day were a game-high.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Cat Sennott, New Hampshire – Sr., Defense, Westford, Mass.
  • Helped Wildcats defense limit Sacred Heart to two goals on seven shots.
  • Sennott recorded team-highs with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • The two goals allowed by New Hampshire is the program's fewest since 2014.
 
Rookie of the Week
Paige Volkmann, Binghamton – Fr., Attack, Center Moriches, N.Y.
  • Scored two points on a goal and an assist in her first collegiate game.
  • She found the back of the net on her lone shot on goal.
  • Her goal was the ninth of the day for the Bearcats and ultimately proved to be the game winner.
