Vermont Secures Top 4 #AEPlayoffs Seed, Week #14 #AEHoops Awardees Honored

BOSTON – Vermont (11-0 AE) became the first #AEHoops team to secure a top-four seed for the 2018 #AEPlayoffs with its win over UMass Lowell Sunday. The Catamounts, winners of 14 in a row overall, extended their league-record conference win streak to 32 games and have the best RPI (44) of any #AEHoops team since the 2004-05 UVM squad finished the season at #25. UMBC (9-3), winners of eight of its last 10, took over sole possession of second place. Hartford (7-4) and. Albany (7-5) round out the top four. The top four teams in the #AEHoops standings at the end of the year will host quarterfinal contests of the #AEPlayoffs.

Player of the Week
Trae Bell-Haynes, Vermont – Sr., Guard, Toronto, Ont.
  • Averaged 23.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in wins over Albany and UMass Lowell last week.
  • Had 20 points and five assists to lead Vermont from 17 down to beat Albany Thursday.
  • Contributed 27 points, four assists and three steals in a win over UMass Lowell Sunday.
  • This is Bell-Haynes’ third Player of the Week honor of the season (1/22, 1/15) and fourth of his career.
Rookie of the Week
Elijah Olaniyi, Stony Brook – Fr., Guard, Frederick, Md.
  • Led Stony Brook to a 2-0 week by averaging 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds.
  • Had 11 points and six rebounds in a win at Maine Sunday.
  • This is Olaniyi’s third fourth Rookie of the Week honor of the season (12/4, 11/27).
