Maine Upsets UNC, Stony Brook Stretches Win Streak; #AEHoops Awards Announced

BOSTON – Maine continued its momentum from the Navy Classic Championship into last weekend, defeating (rv) North Carolina 85-73 on the road. The Black Bears have now won three straight over North Carolina AT&T State, Penn and UNC. Stony Brook is riding a six-game win streak with its most recent win coming over Cornell on Long Island. Shania Johnson set a new single game conference mark with 15 assists in the Seawolves' win over New Paltz.

Co-Player of the Week
Blanca Millan, Maine – Jr., Guard, Santiago de Compostela, Spain
  • Led the Black Bears in scoring with 21 points in a road win over (rv) North Carolina.
  • Had a game-high and season-high seven steals.
  • This is Millan’s second #AEHoops Player of the Week award this season and fourth of her career.
 
Co-Player of the Week
Shania Johnson, Stony Brook – Sr., Guard, Frederick, Md.
  • Averaged a double-double for the second consecutive week with 17.0 points per game and 10.5 assists per game.
  • She set a new single game conference record with 15 assists against New Paltz.
  • This is Johnson’s third consecutive Player of the Week award and fifth of her career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Rose Caverly, Vermont – Fr., Guard, Brick, N.J.
  • Averaged 9.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in 1-1 week.
  • Scored 13 points on 4-for-8 shooting in win over NJIT while also adding four assists.
  • This is Caverly’s first career #AEHoops honor.
