UMass Lowell, UMBC Advance to #AEMSOC Semifinals
For the eighth time in the last 10 years, both the #3 and #5 seeds moved on to the semifinals of the America East Men’s Soccer Championship. Third-seeded UMass Lowell beat sixth-seeded UAlbany, 1-0, while fifth-seeded UMBC advanced past fourth-seeded Vermont in penalty kicks after the two teams played to a 1-1 tie on Saturday afternoon.
UMBC 1, at Vermont 1 (2OT) - UMBC advances in PKs, 5-4
- UMBC moved onto the semifinals for the first time since 2015.
- After a scoreless first half, Vermont took a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute on Jonathan Bryant’s goal.
- Matt Bailey evened the score just 7:10 later with his goal in the 62nd minute.
- Ciaran O’Laughlin stopped the final three Vermont shots in penalty kicks to send UMBC to the semis.
- The Retrievers will visit #1 Stony Brook in the semifinals Wednesday.
at UMass Lowell 1, UAlbany 0
- UMass Lowell will play in the #AEMSOC semis for the second-straight year.
- Owen Miller broke a scoreless tie with just 2:54 left, scoring off a corner kick to give the River Hawks a 1-0 advantage.
- UMass Lowell outshot the UAlbany, 14-3.
- The River Hawks will play at #2 New Hampshire in the semifinals Wednesday.
Both semifinals take place on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and will air on AmericaEast.TV.
