Albany Holds Slight Lead Over Stony Brook in First 2018-19 Commissioner's Cup Standings
BOSTON - After combining to win four conference championships and as many regular-season titles, UAlbany and Stony Brook are neck and neck in the 2018-19 Stuart P. Haskell, Jr., Commissioner’s Cup Standings following the fall season. UAlbany leads Stony Brook by one point in the standings, which were announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
The Commissioner's Cup annually recognizes the strongest athletic program in America East as determined by a scoring system which rewards a school for success both during the regular season and championship competition in the conference's 18 sports.

- Seven of America East’s nine member institutions won a championship or regular-season title or had a runner-up finish this fall.
- The top four schools in the standings (UAlbany, Stony Brook, New Hampshire, UMass Lowell) finished the 2017-18 academic year in the same order.
- Winners of six-straight Commissioner’s Cups, UAlbany won championships in women’s cross country, field hockey and women’s soccer as well as the regular-season crown in field hockey.
- Stony Brook’s second-place standing is its best ever following the fall season, as is its 148 points.
- The Seawolves swept the regular-season and tournament titles in volleyball and won regular-season crowns in men’s soccer and women’s soccer as well.
- New Hampshire swept the regular-season and tournament titles in men’s soccer for the first time in school history.
- UMass Lowell won its second men’s cross country title in program history and also reached the women’s soccer title game for the first time.
The scoring system for the Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner's Cup is as follows: In sports where regular-season round robin competition is conducted, the first-place institution in the final standings receives four points times the total number of teams involved in conference play. The second-place institution receives four less points; third place receives eight less points, and so on. Additionally, the America East (tournament) champion receives two points times the total number of teams participating in the championship. The second-place institution receives two less points; third place receives four less points and so on down to the last-place institution which receives two points.
In sports where regular-season round robin competition is not conducted (cross country, track & field, swimming & diving), the first-place institution at the America East championship receives two points times the total number of teams participating in the championship. The second-place institution receives two less points; third place gets four less points and so on down to the last place team which receives two points.
