Johnson Leads Stony Brook Past Penn State, Pockets Second #AEHoops Weekly Award

BOSTON – Several #AEHoops teams picked up marquee wins last week, headlined by Stony Brook’s road victory over Big Ten opponent Penn State. Maine toppled Ivy League foe Penn in thrilling fashion to win the Navy Classic Championship. Tanesha Sutton scored the game-winning basket with five seconds left and sealed the victory with a steal moments later. Hartford also defeated a top Ivy League team in Harvard on Wednesday. Senior Lindsey Abed later eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career on Saturday against Louisville.

Player of the Week
Shania Johnson, Stony Brook – Sr., Guard, Frederick, Md.
  • Averaged a double-double with 18.5 points per game and 11.0 assists per game in 2-0 week.
  • Scored 25 points and assisted on nine baskets in the Seawolves' win over Penn State.
  • Also grabbed nine rebounds and tallied four steals in the two games combined.
  • This is Johnson’s second consecutive Player of the Week award and fourth of her career.
 
Rookie of the Week
O’lesheya Braxton, UMBC – Fr., Guard, Paterson, N.J.
  • Recorded her first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds against Towson on Tuesday.
  • Her point and rebound totals were both career-highs.
  • Braxton made six of her seven shots and added five assists.
  • This is her first career #AEHoops weekly award.
