2018 #AEMSOC Awards Listing

BOSTON
 — With the 2018 America East Men’s Soccer Championship set to begin tomorrow, the conference’s #AEMSOC annual award winners were announced Friday afternoon, highlighted by the six major award winners, three from regular-season champion Stony Brook, a pair New Hampshire and one from Vermont.

Stony Brook's Martieon Watson, Christian Miesch and the Seawolves' coaching staff all earned major awards with Watson taking home Midfielder of the Year accolades and Miesch being tabbed Rookie of the Year to join their coaches, who won Coaching Staff of the Year, as award winners.  New Hampshire's Josh Bauer garnered Defender of the Year recognition and Lars Huxsohl was tabbed Goalkeeper of the Year. Vermont's Geo Alves rounded out the honorees by taking home Striker of the Year.

The 2018 #AEMSOC awards, along with the All-Conference & All-Rookie teams, were determined in a vote by the league's eight head coaches who were not permitted to vote for their own players. The All-Academic team was voted on by a committee of administrators from the conference’s member institutions.

Striker of the Year
Geo Alves, Sr., Vermont
  • Tied for league lead in goals (10) and second in points (23).
  • Second Catamount to be named Striker of Year and the first since 2005.
  • Also a first-team All-Conference selection.
Midfielder of the Year
Martieon Watson, Sr., Stony Brook
  • Second in the league in assists (8) and 13th in points (10).
  • Fifth time a Seawolf has been named Midfielder of the Year.
  • Also a first-team All-Conference midfielder.
Defender of the Year
Josh Bauer, So., New Hampshire
  • Leads a UNH defense that ranks ninth in the nation with a .577 team GAA.
  • First Wildcat to be named Defender of Year since 2009.
  • Also a first-team All-Conference defender.
Goalkeeper of the Year
Lars Huxsohl, Sr., New Hampshire 
  • Sports a league-leading seven shutouts and second in the conference with a 0.62 GAA.
  • Sixth Wildcat to be named Goalkeeper of Year.
  • Also the first-team All-Conference goalkeeper.
Rookie of the Year
Christian Miesch, Fr., Stony Brook 
  • Second Seawolf in four years to be named Rookie of the Year
  • Also earned second-team All-Conference honors.
Coaching Staff of the Year
Stony Brook
  • Led by head coach Ryan Anatol, the Seawolves were a unanimous choice for Coaching Staff of he Year.
  • Captured its first #AEMSOC regular-season title since 2005 and second in program history.
  • Anatol is assisted by Dannie Merida, Steven Diaz and Jeremy Cheeseman.

The 2018 #AEMSOC Championship gets underway with quarterfinal action on Saturday, Nov. 3. as #4 Vermont hosts #5 UMBC at 12 p.m. and #3 UMass Lowell entertains #6 UAlbany at 4 p.m.. Semifinal action takes place on Wednesday at 7 p.m. with #1 Stony Brook welcoming the Vermont-UMBC winner and #2 New Hampshire hosting the UMass Lowell-UAlbany winner. The semifinal winners will face off for the 2018 conference title at the higher remaining seed on Sunday, Nov. 11. All early round tournament games will air on AmericaEast.TV while the championship game is on ESPN+.
