Stony Brook, UAlbany Advance to #AEVB Championship Match

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The top seeds in the semifinals advanced to the 2018 America East Volleyball Championship on Friday at Stony Brook University. For the fourth time in five years, No. 2 UAlbany will play for the #AEVB title. They will face No. 1 Stony Brook, who advanced to their second consecutive championship game and sixth overall after defeating No. 4 Hartford in straight sets.
 
The Great Danes have now won 13 of their last 16 games after winning in three sets against No. 3 New Hampshire (25-22, 25-22, 25-20). Rookie of the Year Andersen Vaughan finished with a game-high 35 assists and Second-Team All-Conference selections Chloe Evering and Akuabata Okenwa recorded game-highs with 14 kills. The Great Danes will make their 12th appearance in the title match.
 
The top-seeded Seawolves, who are serving as host for the second time in program history, increased their win streak to 16 games. They defeated the Hawks in three sets (25-19, 25-11, 26-24), marking the 10th time this season they have won in straight sets against a league opponent. 2018 Setter of the Year LeAnne Sakowicz tallied a game-high 41 assists for the Seawolves. #AEVB Player of the Year Jenna Bridges led the Hawks with 11 kills in their first #AEVB postseason appearance in 22 years.
