Stony Brook Posts Pair of Marquee Wins; Week 1 MBB Awards Announced
BOSTON – The 2018-19 America East men’s basketball season, the 40th in conference history, is underway. Stony Brook kicked off the year with a pair of impressive road wins at George Washington and South Carolina. Vermont picked up a victory at Boston University and UMBC, UMass Lowell and New Hampshire also won games.
This week, Vermont plays at #2 Kansas tonight on ESPN2 to highlight a full slate of games.

Player of the Week
Akwasi Yeboah, Stony Brook – Jr., Forward, Chigwell, England
- Averaged 18.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in wins at George Washington and South Carolina.
- Had 24 points and 11 boards in the win at South Carolina, Stony Brook’s first-ever over an SEC program.
- This is Yeboah’s first career #AEHoops Player of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Sam Sessoms, Binghamton, Fr., Guard, Philadelphia, Pa.
- Averaged 20 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a pair of games last week.
- Set a Binghamton program record for points in a debut by a freshman with 27 on 12-of-20 shooting vs. Cornell.
- This is Sessoms’ first career #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
