Top-Seeded Stanford Advances to #AEFH Semifinals
PALO ALTO, Calif. – An offensive second half provided plenty of drama in the opening game of the 2018 America East Field Hockey Championship. After taking a 2-0 lead going into halftime, West #1 Stanford fended off three second-half goals from East #4 New Hampshire to advance to the semifinals.
The West Division’s top seed scored three of their goals on penalty corners. 2018 Offensive Player of the Year Corinne Zanolli was responsible for two of those goals, her 25
th and 26
th on the season. She now ranks first in the nation in goals. New Hampshire came within one just 19 seconds into the second half and tied the game on penalty corner just over five minutes into the second frame. The Cardinal and Wildcats exchanged goals before Rookie of the Year Molly Redgrove scored the game-winner at 62:24 on a penalty corner. All-Rookie selection Finn Caron tallied a team-high two goals for the Wildcats.
The #22 team in the nation will face the winner of East #2 Maine and West #3 California on Saturday, November 3 at 12 p.m. PT.
Due to an outbreak of flu-like symptoms on the UAlbany field hockey team, the UAlbany-UC Davis quarterfinal game has been postponed until 12:30 p.m. ET/9:30 a.m. PT on Friday.
