#23 Albany Sweeps #AEFH Week #7 Awards Behind Pair of Thrilling League Wins

BOSTON – Close contests were the theme in #AEFH last week as three league games were decided by one goal. #23 Albany won a pair of nail-biters, one of which was a double overtime victory over New Hampshire that marked the 200th career win for Head Coach Phil Sykes. Pacific topped UC Davis in the late rounds of a shootout on Friday to improve to 2-0 in league play. #21 Stanford reverted to a tough non-conference schedule, upsetting #7 Michigan 4-2 at a neutral site.

Offensive Player of the Week
Ghislaine Beerkens, Albany – So., Forward, Laren, The Netherlands
  • Netted a hat trick in #23 Albany’s 4-3 win over UMass Lowell Friday.
  • Her third goal completed her first career hat trick and tied the game with less than seven minutes remaining.
  • Beerkens took a game-high four shots in double overtime win over New Hampshire.
  • This is her first career #AEFH award.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Frederike Helmke, Albany – Sr., Back, Berlin, Germany
  • Helped #23 Albany to two wins over conference foes behind five total points.
  • Assisted on the game-winning overtime goal after scoring the tying goal against New Hampshire.
  • Scored the game-winning goal against the River Hawks with under four minutes remaining in regulation.
  • This is Helmke’s first Defensive Player of the Week award of her career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Elaina Burchell, Albany – Fr., Forward, Whitney Point, N.Y.
  • Scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to advance the Great Danes to 3-1 in league play.
  • Took two shots and scored her fourth goal of the season, which ranks fourth on the team.
  • This is her first career #AEFH Rookie of the Week honor.
