Five #AEVB Teams Earn League Wins; Week #7 Awards Announced

BOSTON – Five #AEVB teams earned conference victories last week. The Seawolves improved to 4-0 in league games and remain as the only undefeated team. UMass Lowell earned their first #AEVB win with a come from behind victory against UMBC.

Here are the conference's weekly award winners:

Player of the Week
Kennedi Smith, New Hampshire – Jr., OH, The Woodlands, TX
  • Averaged 3.71 kills per set on a .221 hitting percentage in 2-0 week for the Wildcats.
  • Also recorded 4.43 digs per set.
  • Recorded a double-double against both UMBC (11 kills, 15 digs) and Binghamton (15 kills, 16 digs).
  • This is Smith’s third career #AEVB Player of the Week award.
Setter of the Week
LeAnne Sakowicz, Stony Brook – Jr., Setter, Wauconda, Ill.
  • Recorded 11.75 assists per set in a 3-1 victory against UAlbany.
  • Added 8 digs and helped the Seawolves to a .256 hitting percentage.
  • This is Sakowicz’s eighth career #AEVB Setter of the Week award.
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Emily Tanski, New Hampshire – Jr., DS, Plymouth, MI
  • Averaged 5.71 digs per set in a 2-0 week for New Hampshire.
  • Tallied 19 digs to help limit UMBC to a .147 hitting percentage.
  • Recorded her eighth 20+ dig effort with a team-high 21 digs against Binghamton.
  • This is Tanski’s third #AEVB Defensive Specialist of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Kate Bilyeu, UMass Lowell – Fr., OH., Omaha, NE
  • Averaged 1.87 kills per set in a 1-1 week for the River Hawks.
  • Added 6 digs and two blocks.
  • Marked a team-high nine kills and an impressive .412 hitting percentage vs Binghamton.
  • This is Bilyeu’s first #AEVB Rookie of the Week award of her career.
