Great Danes, River Hawks Win 2018 #AEXC Titles
Nashua, N.H. – For the first time in three years, new champions were crowned in America East cross country on Saturday. The UMass Lowell River Hawks began a rain-soaked day with a victory by a one-point margin in the men’s team scoring. The UAlbany Great Danes followed by winning their first women’s #AEXC title in program history.

Paul Hogan defended his title, but not unscathed, crossing the finish line in 24:29.67 after overcoming an early pile up. The UMass Lowell senior is the first male to repeat as champion since Maine’s Riley Masters in 2010-11.
UAlbany junior Hannah Reinhardt charted history, becoming the first Great Dane to win the women’s 5K. She ran the course in 16:54.75, a full 23 seconds ahead of the pack.
Reinhardt was named to the All-Conference First Team along with teammate Cara Sherman, Stony Brook’s Annika Sisson and Tiana Guevara, Binghamton’s Aziza Chigatayeva, Vermont’s Lauren Trumble and UMass Lowell’s Kaley Richards. Second team selections included New Hampshire’s Meg Champagne, Vermont’s Annemarie Martell, Maggie Hallahan and Samantha Sayer, Albany’s Holly Machabee and Kayla Quarshie and Stony Brook’s Alexandria Ortega.
Chigatayeva was named Most Outstanding Rookie after she placed third in her first career #AEXC Championship. She ran in a time of 17:26.52.
Led by Head Coach Andy Ronan, the Stony Brook staff was named Coaching Staff of the Year on the women's side.
The men’s All-Conference First Team included Hogan and teammate Benjamin Drezek, Binghamton’s Dan Schaffer, Stony Brook’s Cameron Avery and Vann Moffett, Albany’s Victor Ortiz Rivera and Maine’s Aaron Willingham. Four Seawolves earned second team recognition in Michael Watts, Darian Sorouri, Greg Mangarelli and Kevin Vinolas. Joining them were Vermont’s John Benner and UMass Lowell’s Thomas Teachen.
Binghamton freshman Matthew Goyden was named Most Outstanding Rookie. Goyden finished 35th in the men’s race in a time of 26:00.68 as the Bearcats swept the award.
The River Hawks, led by Head Coach Gary Gardner, earned men's Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
The Elite 18 awards are given annually to the event medalists with the highest GPAs. UAlbany senior Cara Sherman earned the award with her 3.90 GPA coupled with a seventh-place finish. Stony Brook junior and third-place finisher Cameron Avery also received the honor with his 3.73 GPA.
