#AEWSOC Championship Set to Start; Final Weekly Awards Announced

BOSTON – The 2018 #AEWSOC regular season is complete with the attention turning to the  America East Championship, which begins this week. Stony Brook is the top seed for the first time while Hartford is #2 after the two teams shared the regular-season title. #3 UAlbany, #UMass Lowell, #5 Vermont and #6 New Hampshire round out the tourney field.

Here are the conference’s week #10 awards:

Offensive Player of the Week
Julie Johnstonbaugh, Stony Brook – Sr., Forward, Neshanic Station, N.J.
  • Had game-winning overtime goals in each of Stony Brook’s wins last week, which helped the Seawolves secure a share of the #AEWSOC regular-season title and the top seed for the America East Championship for the first time in program history.
  • Scored 9:06 into overtime Thursday to lead her team to a 2-1 OT win vs. Hartford.
  • Found the back of the net 4:08 into extra time Sunday in a 1-0 OT win at UMass Lowell.
  • This is Johnstonbaugh’s first career #AEWSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Sofia Manner, Stony Brook – So., Goalkeeper, Helsinki, Finland
  • Stopped 11 of 13 shots she faced last week in two wins.
  • Made 11 saves, just off her season high, in a 1-0 shutout of UMass Lowell Sunday.
  • Saved seven shots against UMass Lowell and four against Stony Brook.
  • This is Manner’s second #AEWSOC Defensive Player of the Week award of the season and of her career (8/27/18).
 
Rookie of the Week
Saylor Clark, Maine – Fr., Forward, Bedford, N.H.
  • Had a goal and an assist in Maine’s lone game of the week.
  • This is Clark’s first Rookie of the Week honor of the year.
