UMBC & Vermont Earns Season's First #AESD Honors

BOSTON – The 2018-19 #AESD season is officially underway. Vermont, UMBC, VMI all competed last weekend. The Catamounts and Retrievers both earned season-opening victories.
 
Here are the first weekly awards of the season:
 
Female Swimmer of the Week
Hania Moro, UMBC – Sr., Distance, New Cairo, Egypt
  • Won the 200 free, 500 free and 1000 free in times of 1:52.69, 5:00.42 and 10:18.02, respectively
  • Helped UMBC open their 2018-19 season with wins over Delaware and Johns Hopkins.
  • This is Moro’s first career #AESD Swimmer of the Week award this season.
 
Male Swimmer of the Week
Tiago Asakawa, UMBC – Fr., Sprints, Sumaré, Brazil
  • Opened his UMBC career with two individual wins in the 100 fly (50.74) and 50 free (20.75).
  • Helped break the UMBC pool record in the 200 medley relay while also helping the Retrievers win the 400 free relay.
  • This is Asakawa’s first career #AESD Swimmer of the Week award this season.
 
Female Diver of the Week
Emily Murphy, Vermont – So., Diver, Greenwich, CT.
  • Finished first in both the 1 meter (205.2) and 3 meter (323.8) events in Vermont’s season-opening win over Niagara.
  • This is Murphy’s first career #AESD Diver of the Week award this season.
 
Male Diver of the Week
Elijah Wright, UMBC – Jr., Diver, Baltimore, MD.
  • Won both the 1 meter (252.6) and 3 meter (273.75) events as UMBC swept Delaware and Johns Hopkins.
  • This is Wright’s first career #AESD Diver of the Week award this season.
