UMBC Sweeps First #AESD Awards of New Year

BOSTON – The 2017-18 #AESD season returned last weekend as several teams returned to the pool after the holiday break. The men’s team for UMBC won their home meet against Howard by a score of 139-113 while the women topped both Howard and Vermont in their home pool. The Catamounts were able to earn a victory over Howard in the same meet. Binghamton competed in the Florida International Sprint Invitational where the men’s team finished second and the women placed third.
 
Here are this week’s award winners:
 
Female Swimmer of the Week
Hania Moro, UMBC – Jr., Freestyle, New Cairo, Egypt
  • Won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:52.33.
  • Also won the 500 free and 1,000 free in times of 5:02.81 and 10:18.30, respectively.
  • It is Moro’s third #AESD Swimmer of the Week award this season.
 
Male Swimmer of the Week
Philip Adejumo, UMBC – Sr., Freestyle, Elkridge, Md.
  • Won the 200 free with a personal-best time of 1:41.95.
  • Won the 100 free in a time of 47.23, also a personal best.
  • It is his first #AESD Swimmer of the Week award this season
 
Female Diver of the Week
Abby Biddulph, UMBC – So., Dives, Egg Harbor City, N.J.
  • Won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives against Howard and Vermont.
  • Scored 220.60 in the 1m and 227.05 in the 3m.
  • It is her second #AESD Female Diver award this season.
 
Male Diver of the Week
Elijah Wright, UMBC – Jr., Dives, Baltimore
  • Took first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 285.20.
  • Placed second in the 3-meter with a score of 248.65.
  • It is Wright’s second #AESD Diver of the Week award this season.
