Four Student-Athletes Earn #AETF Week 6 Awards
BOSTON – It was an action-packed weekend for America East track and field programs, with several competing in multiple meets. Most teams traveled to the same locations, including Albany and Stony Brook, who competed in the Dr. Sander Invitational in New York. Binghamton and UMBC competed in the Penn State National Open and Hartford, Maine, New Hampshire and UMass Lowell traveled to Boston to compete in the Terrier Invitational. Vermont participated in a number of meets, namely a quad-meet with New Hampshire, Maine and Dartmouth.
Here are this week’s award winners:
Female Track Performer of the Week
Elinor Purrier, New Hampshire – Sr., Distance, Montgomery, Vt.
- Finished second in the 800m run at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic.
- Purrier’s time of 2:04.53 ranks sixth nationally.
- It is her second #AETF Performer of the Week award this season.
Male Track Performer of the Week
Sidney Gibbons, Albany – Jr., Hurdles, St. Albans, N.Y.
- Broke a nine year-old school record in the 60m hurdles, placing fourth in a time of 7.82.
- His time ranks in the nation’s top-20.
- It is his third consecutive Performer of the Week award.
Female Field Performer of the Week
Keishorea Armstrong, Binghamton – Gr., Jumps, Chatham, N.Y.
- Finished second in the long jump at the Penn State National Open.
- Her mark of 19’10.75” ranks first in the conference.
- It is Armstrong's first Field Performer of the Week award this season.
Male Field Performer of the Week
Michael Shanahan, New Hampshire – Sr., Throws, Dover, N.H.
- Won the weight throw at the Terrier Invitational.
- Throw of 71’8” was a full 10 feet farther than the pack.
- It is his fourth indoor #AETF weekly award of the season.
