Four Earn #AEVB Week #2 Honors
BOSTON – Three #AEVB programs posted winning weekends last week as Binghamton, UMass Lowell and Stony Brook all went 2-1 at their respective early-season tournaments. The Bearcats made it three-out-of-four with a win over Siena on Tuesday while UMBC and New Hampshire also picked up wins.
Here are the conference's week two award winners:
Player of the Week
McKyla Brooks, Stony Brook – Jr., Middle Blocker, Blasdell, N.Y.
- Hit a league-best .431 and averaged 3.4 kills per set to lead Stony Brook to a 2-1 week.
- Finished with 17 kills, one shy of her career high, a 3-1 win over Harvard Friday.
- Named to the Harvard Invitational All-Tournament team.
- This is Brooks’ first career #AEVB Player of the Week honor.
Setter of the Week
Sarah Ngo, Binghamton – Sr., Setter, Franklin, Tenn.
- Averaged a conference-best 10.5 assists and added 3.4 digs per set in a 2-1 week for the Bearcats.
- Collected three double-doubles, including a 50 assist, 15 dig performance in a win over Rider and a 40 assist, 13 dig performance in a win over Cleveland State.
- This is Ngo’s first #AEVB Setter of the Week of the season and sixth of her career (11/16/16, 10/25/16, 9/13/16, 11/9/15, 10/19/15).
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Lindsey Visvardis, UMass Lowell – Jr., Libero, Glen, Ill.
- Averaged 3.7 digs per set and helped UMass Lowell hold opponents to a league-best .120 hitting percentage in a 2-1 week.
- Had a season-high 19 digs in a win over NJIT.
- This is her first #AEVB Defensive Specialist of the Week honor of the season and second of her career (9/6/16).
Rookie of the Week
Samantha Gioiosa – Fr., Libero, Bogota, N.J.
- Averaged a conference-best 4.79 digs per set to lead Bearcats to 2-1 week.
- Had a career-high 24 digs in consecutive matches vs. Marist and Cleveland State.
- This is Gioiosa’s first career #AEVB Rookie of the Week award.
