Week #5 #AEFH Honors Bestowed as League Play Revs Up
BOSTON – Conference play hits full swing in America East field hockey this week with five league games on the schedule. Stanford and Albany remained ranked in the NFHCA Coaches poll this week with the Cardinal moving up to #11 and Albany rising two spots to #18. Pacific also re-entered the rankings at #23.
The majority of #AEFH conference games will appear on AmericaEast.TV, the place to watch free live content on any device, including the network's Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Android TV OTT channels. Here are the conference's week five award winners:
Offensive Player of the Week
Kriekie van Wyk, Pacific – Jr., Forward, Pretoria, South Africa
- Tallied nine points on four goals and an assist while splitting a pair of games vs. ranked foes.
- Scored twice in a 5-4 overtime win vs. #18 William & Mary Friday.
- Had two goals and an assist in a 5-4 double overtime loss to #8 Boston College Sunday.
- This is van Wyk’s first #AEFH Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season and second of her career (9/13/16).
Defensive Player of the Week
Melissa Nealon, Albany – So., Goalkeeper, Mechanicville, N.Y.
- Stopped 22 of 26 shots she faced in a 1-1 week vs. top 10 foes for Albany.
- Had a career-high 13 saves in a 3-2 overtime win over #5 and reigning national champion Delaware Friday.
- Stopped nine shots in a 2-1 overtime loss to #7 North Carolina Sunday.
- This is Nealon’s first career #AEFH Defensive Player of the Week award.
Rookie of the Week
Corinne Zanolli, Stanford – Fr., Forward, Newtown Sq., Pa.
- Collected 10 points on four goals and two assists in leading Stanford to three wins over #AEFH East Division foes.
- Had a goal and an assist in a 4-3 win over UMass Lowell Thursday.
- Scored twice, including the game winner in overtime, in a 3-2 extra time win at UNH Friday.
- Wrapped up her week with a five-point effort (2 goals, 1 assist) in a 4-1 win over Maine Sunday.
- This is Zanolli’s second #AEFH Rookie of the Week honor of the season (9/6).
