#AEVB Conference Play Set to Start Week #4 Awards Announced
BOSTON – #AEVB conference play kicks off this weekend with six matches. The seven America East volleyball programs will play a double round robin schedule through Nov. 12 with the top four teams in the standings earning a trip to the 2017 America East Volleyball Championship. The top seed will host the championship Friday, Nov. 17 and Saturday, Nov. 18 or Saturday, Nov. 18 and Sunday. Nov. 19.
The majority of #AEVB conference matches will appear AmericaEast.TV, the place to watch free live content on any device, including the network's Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Android TV OTT channels. Here are the conference's week four award winners:
Player of the Week
Gabri Olhava, New Hampshire – Jr., Middle Blocker, Mount Prospect, Ill.
- Averaged a league-best 3.9 kills per set to lead UNH to a 3-1 week.
- Also contributed .62 service aces (2nd) and .94 blocks (5th) while hitting .375 (3rd) last week.
- Had 3.8 kills and hit a whopping .440 to lead UNH to a 3-0 mark at the Holly Young Invitational en route to the tournament title. She earned all-tourney honors.
- This is Olhava’s first career #AEVB Player of the Week honor.
Setter of the Week
LeAnne Sakowicz, Stony Brook - So., Setter, Wauconda, Ill.
- Averaged a conference-best 10.5 assists and added 2.2 digs per set in a 3-0 week for the Seawolves.
- Paced Stony Brook to a league-best .214 hitting percentage on the week.
- This is Sakowicz’s first #AEVB Setter of the Week honor of her career.
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Kiani Kerstetter, Stony Brook – Fr., Libero, Cardiff, Calif.
- Contributed a league-best 5.92 digs per set to lead Stony Brook to a 3-0 week.
- Totaled 33 digs in a four-set win over Colgate Friday and 22 in a four-set win over Cornell Saturday.
- Helped the Seawolves win the Colgate Invitational and earned all-tournament recognition.
- This is Kerstetter’s first Defensive Specialist of the Week honor of her career.
Rookie of the Week
Carmen Freeman, UMBC – Fr., Outside Hitter, Memphis, Tenn.
- Averaged a double-double of 12.3 kills and 14.6 digs to lead UMBC to a 2-1 week.
- Earned MVP honors of George Washington’s tournament.
- This is Freeman’s second-straight career #AEVB Rookie of the Week award (9/12).
