Week #5 #AEWSOC Awards Bestowed With League Play Set to Begin

BOSTON – Conference play begins for eight of the nine #AEWSOC programs this week as team battle for #AEChamps positioning. The top six teams in the conference standings will qualify for the 2017 #AEWSOC Championship. The top two seeds will receive a bye to the semifinals and the higher seed will host each round of the championship. 

The majority of #AEWSOC conference games will appear AmericaEast.TV, the place to watch free live content on any device, including the network's Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Android TV OTT channels. Ten contests will air on ESPN3, home to over 30 America East school-produced events this fall. Full #AEWSOC Schedule/Results

Here are the conference's week five award winners:

Player of the Week
Mia Neas, New Hamsphire - Sr., Goalkeeper, Old Saybrook, Conn.
  • Recorded a pair of shutouts in UNH's two wins last week. 
  • Stopped all 13 shots she faced. 
  • Tied her career high with nine saves in a 1-0 win over Northeastern Sunday. 
  • This is Neas' first #AEWSOC Player of the Week award of her career.
Rookie of the Week
Alyssa Francese, Stony Brook - Fr. Forward, Yorktown Heights, Stony Brook
  • Scored her first three collegiate goals in the same game, a 6-0 win over Wagner. 
  • The three scores all came within 15 minutes of each other in the second half.
  • It was the first hat trick by an #AEWSOC player since Oct. 2, 2014 (Hartford's Sidney Spremullo).
  • This is Francese's first career #AEWSOC Rookie of the Week award.
