America East institutions once again stand out in the latest U.S. News & World Report’s Best College Rankings announced Tuesday, placing the conference among the best in the nation in the institutional rankings.

Three of the conference’s member schools rank among the top 100 national universities in the country while all eight of the conference's public institutions were chosen among the top 100 public universities nationally in the comprehensive rankings for the fifth-straight year.

"These rankings once again provide affirmation that our member institutions are some of the best in the country," said America East Commissioner Amy Huchthausen. "America East is comprised of like-minded institutions with similar academic profiles and aspirations and these institutions continue to offer their students what they need to be successful, just as we as a conference aim to provide our member institutions a platform upon which both collegiate and life success can be achieved.

To calculate the rankings, U.S. News gathers data from each college on up to 15 indicators of academic excellence. The indicators are scored, normalized and assigned weights that reflect U.S. News' judgment about how much the measures matter. Next, the weighted values are summed and transformed so that each eligible school receives an overall score between 0 and 100, with the top school(s) in each category scoring 100. Finally, colleges and universities are ranked against their peers in descending order of their overall scores.
