UMBC Nets 3 #AEVB Awards After a Perfect 4-0 Week
BOSTON – Five of America East’s seven #AEVB programs earned victories last week, including UMBC, which posted a perfect 4-0 mark and won the Charm City Classic.
Here are the conference's week three award winners:
Player of the Week
Lauren Mortimer, UMBC – So., Middle Blocker, Queen Anne’s, Md.
- Hit .329 and averaged 2.8 kills per set in leading UMBC to a 4-0 week.
- Named MVP of the Charm City Classic.
- Had 14 kills and hit .478 in the tournament title match win over Loyola.
- This is Mortimer’s first career #AEVB Player of the Week honor.
Setter of the Week
Krytsia Negron, UMBC – Jr., Setter, San Juan, P.R.
- Averaged a conference-best 11.5 assists and added 2.5 digs per set in a 4-0 week for the Retrievers.
- Paced UMBC to a league-best .230 hitting percentage in the four wins.
- Collected a pair of double-doubles and had a season-best 51 assists in a four-set win over Loyola.
- This is Negron’s first #AEVB Setter of the Week honor of her career.
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Logan Welti, New Hampshire – So., Outside Hitter, Middleton, Wis.
- Averaged 4.9 digs per set over three matches.
- Helped UNH hold foes to a .179 hitting percentage, the second-best mark in the conference last week.
- This is her first career #AEVB Defensive Specialist of the Year.
Rookie of the Week
Carmen Freeman, UMBC – Fr., Outside Hitter, Memphis, Tenn.
- Averaged 2.6 kills and 3.5 digs in leading UMBC to a 4-0 week.
- Helped UMBC hold teams to a league-best .125 hitting percentage against last week.
- This is Freeman’s first career #AEVB Rookie of the Week award.

Twenty-one more America East volleyball matches take place this week, including New Hampshire hosting the Holly Young Invitational. Its three matches will air on ESPN3, home over 30 America East produced events this fall. including the network's Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Android TV OTT channels.
