#AEWSOC Teams Off to Strong 7-4-3 Start

BOSTON - The 2017 women's soccer season kicked off over the weekend and America East teams got off to a strong start, combining to go 7-4-3 on opening weekend. Binghamton and New Hampshire each went a perfect 2-0 while UMBC, Stony Brook and Vermont also picked up their first wins of the year. The Bearcats are 2-0-0 for the first time since 2012 while it’s been 25 seasons since the Wildcats were last 2-0-0 in 1993.

Here are the conference's week one award winners:

Player of the Week
Kayla Saager, Binghamton - Jr., Forward, East Islip, N.Y.

  • Factored in on all four Binghamton goals, racking up five points on a goal and three assists in leading the Bearcats to their first 2-0 start since 2012.
  • Set up both Binghamton goals in a 2-1 win over Atlantic 10-foe St. Bonaventure Friday.
  • Scored her first goal as a Bearcat and set up the game winner in a 2-1 win over Manhattan Sunday.
  • This is the West Virginia transfer's first-career #AEWSOC Player of the Week honor.

Rookie of the Week
Rachel Florenz, Stony Brook - Fr., Midfielder, East Islip, N.Y.

  • Tallied a pair of goals in Stony Brook's 3-0 win over Iona Sunday.
  • Her scores came just 3:35 apart in the 2nd and 6th minutes to stake the Seawolves to an early two-goal lead.
  • Had the only multi-goal effort by an #AEWSOC player this weekend.
  • This is Florenz's first career #AEWSOC Rookie of the Week award.
