Lowell, Mass. – Rain haulted day two of the America East Baseball Championship at LeLacheur Park on Thursday. After delaying the first pitch between Albany and Binghamton, inclement weather resulted in the postponement of the remaining two games.

The fourth-seeded Great Danes won their second straight game in the championship for the first time since 2007. After beating the fifth-seeded Maine Black Bears on Wednesday, the Great Danes beat the top seed on Thursday by a score of 7-3.

Albany 7, Binghamton 3 – Box Score | Highlights

Both pitchers were removed from the game by the end of the fifth inning and it was Albany's bullpen that fortified an early lead. The Great Danes' offense struck first with four runs in the third inning and maintained their lead until the final out. Matt Hinchy, Kyle Sacks (2) and Alex Thul were responsible for driving in the first four runs of the day. In the fifth inning, Binghamton scored three times, twice by way of walks with the bases loaded. Albany followed by tacking on a run in the top of the sixth when Connor Powers hit an RBI single. The Great Danes capped off a wet afternoon by adding insurance in both the eighth and ninth innings. The bullpen accounted for 4.2 shutout innings, allowing two hits.

Play is scheduled to resume Friday at 11 AM with UMBC and Stony Brook. Maine will play the loser of that game at 2:30 PM while Albany awaits the winner of UMBC/Stony Brook.
