WASHINGTON, D.C. - Once again, America East men's and women's lacrosse players are being recognized for their athletic excellence as four standouts were named nominees for the 2017 Tewaraaton Award on Friday. The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States.

University at Albany's Connor Fields and Stony Brook University's Kylie Ohlmiller highlighted the quartet and are strong candidates to be named finalists when they are announced next week. Fields is the nation's top scorer in men's lacrosse, averaging 6.7 points per game, while Ohmiller leads the women's game, averaging 7.5 points per contest.

Joining Ohlmiller as women's nominees are teammate Dorrien Van Dyke, a three-time first-team All-America East selection, and Albany's Sarah Martin, who ranks second only to Ohlmiller nationally with 5.9 points per game.

This is the fifth-straight year at least one America East men's lacrosse standout has been a nominee. America East is joined by only the ACC as conferences with at least four Tewaraaton Award winners all-time.

On the women's side, America East is one of just six conferences with at least three nominees this year, joining the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Ivy League and MPSF.

Five men's and five women's finalists will be selected from these groups and announced on Thursday, May 11. Finalists will be invited to the 17th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony on Thursday, June 1 in Washington, D.C.
