Student-Athletes Ascend Conference Rankings, Claim #AETF Awards

BOSTON – As the 2017 America East Outdoor Track and Field Championship approaches, teams have begun to look forward to final tune-ups before heading to New Hampshire. In the past week, Stony Brook men and women claimed victories at the Wolfie Invitational, New Hampshire women picked up a pair of victories, UMass Lowell men topped New Hampshire and Albany held their Spring Classic.

 Here are this week's award winners:

 

Male Track Performer of the Week

 Osiris Nicholson, Albany - Fr., Sprints, Bronx, N.Y. 

  • Nicholson finished tied for second place at the Spring Classic in the 200m
  • Time of 21.30 is tied for first in the conference this season
  • Anchored the winning 4x100m relay team (43.07)
  • Nicholson also placed fourth in the 100m in a time of 10.80 (10.87 in trials)

 

Male Field Performer of the Week 

Alexios Prodanas, UMBC – Fr., Throws, Kilkis, Greece

  • Prodanas broke his own record in the hammer throw with a toss of 65.04m (213'4")
  • Alexios set the record last week at the Bison Outdoor Classic, but reset the mark at the Princeton Invitational to earn gold in the event
  • His mark ranks 37th in the nation

 

Female Track Performer of the Week 

Shannon Murdock, New Hampshire – So., Distance, Exeter, N.H. 

  • Ran a personal best 4:23.25 in the 1500-meter run
  • Her time ranks third in the America East
  • Only three Wildcats have ever run faster

 

 Female Field Performer of the Week 

Tara Belinsky, Albany - Jr., Throws, Manhasset, N.Y. 

  • Won the women's shot put with a mark of 46-10.0, tying a personal best
  • Ranks first in America East
