BOSTON – Conference play for six of America East's seven softball teams gets underway this week. Binghamton will visit UMBC while Hartford hosts UMass Lowell and Albany takes on Stony Brook. Teams will play seven conference series and battle for seeding for the 2017 America East Softball Championship, which will take place May 7-10 at the highest seed.
Here are the week #7 award winners:
Player of the Week
Kelly Lane, UMBC - Sr., OF/P, Albany, N.Y.
- Registered a 1.295 OPS in leading UMBC to a 5-1 week last week.
- Reached base 12 times in 22 plate appearances.
- Hit her first two home runs of the season.
- Drove in five runs.
- This is Lane's first Player of the Week honor of the season. She was named Pitcher of the Week on March 7.
Pitcher of the Week
Lindsey Hughes, Stony Brook - So., P, San Dimas, Calif.
- Went 2-0 and didn't allow a run in 15 1/3 innings of work last week.
- Surrendered just 10 hits.
- Fanned 16 while walking only one.
- This is Hughes' first career Pitcher of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Jourdin Hering, Stony Brook - Fr., OF, Federal Way, Wash.
- Slashed .412/.500/.941 in six games last week.
- Belthed three home runs.
- Drove in six runs and scored six times as well.
- This is Hering's first career Rookie of the Week honor.
