BOSTON – The outdoor track and field season is underway as two teams took to warm locations to begin competition last weekend. Albany traveled to Puerto Rico to compete in the Spring Break Classic while Maine was in Orlando for a two-day meet against UCF.
Here are this week’s award winners:
Male Track Performer of the Week
Robert Harris III, Albany - Sr., Sprints, Bronx, N.Y.
- Placed third in the men’s 100m in a wind-aided 10.39
- Time is fastest overall in UAlbany program history (wind-aided and wind-legal)
Male Field Performer of the Week
Adrian Mitchell, Albany - Fr., Throws, Kingston, Jamaica
- Won the men’s javelin with distance of 215-03.00 (65.60m)
- Mark is second best in program history
- Ranks 24th in the nation for the outdoor season
Female Track Performer of the Week
Dayleen Santana Rodriguez, Albany - Jr., Sprints, Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico
- Won the women’s 100m in 11.62
- Breaks previous school record of 11.78 set in 2003 by Teresa Covert
- Led off victorious 4x100m relay in 45.34
- Breaks previous school record of 45.80 set in 2016
Female Field Performer of the Week
Chinwe Igwe, Albany - Sr., Throws, West Orange, N.J.
- Placed second in the women’s hammer throw with 184-00.00 (56.09m)
- Personal best by nearly 12 feet
- Placed eighth in the women’s discus at 130-11.00 (39.91m)
