BOSTON – America East’s 2017 softball season began last week with UMBC and UMass Lowell in action and each picked up their first win of the season. Here are the first weekly award winners of the year:
Player of the Week
Kaelin Jackson, UMBC - Sr., 3B, Export, Pa.
- Hit .533 in four games going 8-for-15.
- Belted three doubles and slugged .733
- Scored three runs and drove in a pair.
- This is Jackson's second career Player of the Week honor (3/8/16).
Pitcher of the Week
Kim Puccio, UMBC – Jr., P, Sparta, N.J.
- Allowed just one earned run over 7 1/3 innings for a 1.89 ERA.
- Fanned a pair.
- This is Puccio's third career Pitcher of the Week honor (3/8/26, 4/26/16).
Rookie of the Week
Evvie Buehlman, UMBC - Fr., OF/P, Ellicott City, Md.
- Delivered a pinch hit two-run single in UMBC's win over UMKC.
- The hit proved to the be the game winner.
- This is Buehlman's first career Rookie of the Week honor.
