Albany, New Hampshire Share First Indoor #AETF Awards of Season
BOSTON – The 2017-18 America East Indoor Track and Field season kicked off last weekend with seven of nine programs competing in meets. New Hampshire opened its season with a dual meet sweep over Maine. Hartford and UMass Lowell competed in the Brown University Alden Invitational while Albany competed in the Boston University Season Opener. Binghamton opened their season at the Cornell Greg Page Relays and Stony Brook was in action in the Fordham Season Opener.
Here are the first weekly award winners of the season:
Female Track Performer of the Week
Elinor Purrier, New Hampshire – Sr., Distance, Montgomery, Vt.
- Purrier began her senior season by running the nation’s top time in the 3000m
- She eclipsed a school record with a time of 8:55.68
- Purrier competed in the Boston University Season Opener with several teammates
Male Track Performer of the Week
Myles Banfield, Albany – Jr., Mid-Distance, Markham, Canada
- Won the 300m at the Boston University Season Opener
- His time of 33.62 broke the BU facility and Albany school records
- Also anchored the second-place 4x400m relay
Co-Female Field Performer of the Week
Anika Hibbard, Albany – Jr., Jumps, Bedford, N.H.
- Won the high jump at the Boston University Season Opener
- Her jump of 1.70m is tied for ninth in the country
Co-Female Field Performer of the Week
Rachel Morrison, New Hampshire – Sr., Jumps, Westwood, Mass.
- Won the high jump in UNH’s dual meet against Maine
- She cleared 1.70m, which is tied for ninth in the country
Male Field Performer of the Week
Michael Shanahan, New Hampshire – Sr., Throws, Dover, N.H.
- Won the weight throw, breaking the school record twice in the process
- His final throw of 69’6” ranks second in the country
- Helped the Wildcats to victory in their dual meet against Maine
