Repeat Winners for UMBC Highlight #AESD Week 5 Awards
BOSTON – UMBC swept their men’s and women’s meets at Old Dominion last weekend while the women’s teams for New Hampshire and Vermont both picked up wins. Vermont topped Maine 169-111 in their Rally Against Cancer Meet to improve to 3-1 in conference meets. New Hampshire defeated Rhode Island 188.5-111.5 to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Here are this week’s award winners:
Female Swimmer of the Week
Hania Moro, UMBC – Jr., Freestyle, New Cairo, Egypt
- Finished first in the 100 free, 200 free and 500 free
- Her time of 52.97 in the 100 free is a season best
- It is Moro’s second #AESD Female Swimmer of the Week award of the season
Male Swimmer of the Week
Alexander Gliese, UMBC – Jr., Backstroke, Columbia, Md.
- Won the 100 back in a time of 50.47, one of two pool records he set in UMBC’s win over Old Dominion
- Set another pool record with a winning time of 1:40.60 in the 200 back
- It is his second #AESD Swimmer of the Week award this season
Female Diver of the Week
Emily Murphy, Vermont – Fr., Dives, Greenwich, Conn.
- Won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 238.72
- Helped Vermont to 169-111 victory over Maine
- It is her first career #AESD Female Diver award
Male Diver of the Week
Leo Buoye, UMBC – Jr., Dives, Spencerport, N.Y.
- Won the 1-meter dive with a score of 241.00
- Place second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 230.20
- It is this first #AESD Male Diver award of the season for Buoye
