Albany, UMass Lowell, Vermont, UMBC Go 9-0; Week #3 MBB #AEHoops Awards Bestowed

BOSTON – Albany, UMass Lowell, Vermont and UMBC stayed hot last week as the four programs combined to go 9-0. The Great Danes are a perfect 6-0 on the season after posting road wins at Dartmouth and Holy Cross and are one of just 30 unbeaten teams in the country, including one of only10 non-Power 5 conference schools yet to suffer a loss. The River Hawks posted a pair of home wins to extend their win streak to five games, while Vermont scored an impressive road win at Yale, the preseason #2 pick in the Ivy League. The Retrievers won two games at home to improve to 3-3.

The Catamounts are ranked 3rd in the MidMajor.com Top 25 while also receiving a vote in the AP Top 25 this week. Albany is eighth in the Mid Major Top 25 and UMass Lowell is receiving votes.

Here are the week #3 award winners for the 2017-18 season:

Co-Player of the Week
Joe Cremo, Albany – Jr., Guard, Scotia, N.Y.
  • Averaged 20.3 points, 4.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds in three Albany wins last week.
  • Shot 60 percent from the field (21-of-35).
  • Scored a career-high 30 points and added five assists in a win at Holy Cross Saturday.
  • This is Cremo’s first Player of the Week honor of the season and third of his career.
Co-Player of the Week
Jahad Thomas, UMass Lowell - Sr., Forward, Williamsport, Pa.
  • Averaged a double-double of 20.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in two UMass Lowell wins, helping the River Hawks extend their win streak to five games.
  • Had 24 points and eight boards in a win over LIU Brooklyn Wednesday.
  • Tallied 17 points and 14 rebounds in a victory over Loyola Sunday.
  • This is Thomas' second-straight Player of the Week honor, second of the season and fifth of his career.
Rookie of the Week
Elijah Olaniyi, Stony Brook – Fr., Guard, Newark, N.J.
  • Averaged 12.0 points on 69 percent shooting (11-of-16) to go with 3.5 rebounds in two games last week.
  • Had 11 points and four rebounds in Stony Brook’s win over Brown Wednesday.
  • This is his first career Rookie of the Week honor.
