Top Seeds Albany, Stanford Advance to #AEFH Semis

BOSTON — Albany and Stanford, the two #1 seeds for the 2017 America East Field Hockey Championship, rolled to quarterfinal wins Thursday at UMass Lowell’s Wicked Blue Turf to advance to the semifinals for the third-straight season.
 
The Great Danes, the top seed from the East, beat West #4 seed UC Davis, 5-0, in the day’s first quarterfinal while the Cardinal, the West #1 seed, upended East #4 seed UMass Lowell, 5-1, in the nightcap. Ghislaine Beerkens scored twice to the lead Albany, the #20 team in the nation, while America East Rookie of the Year Corinne Zanolli had two goals and an assist to pace #18 Stanford.

Albany will face the winner of West #2 California-East #3 New Hampshire in the first semifinal Saturday at 12 p.m. ET while Stanford takes on the winner of East #2 Maine-West #3 Pacific in the second semifinal Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET.

The tournament continues Friday with the Cal-UNH quarterfinal at 12 p.m. ET followed by the Maine-Pacific quarterfinal at 2:30 p.m. ET.
