Cowley, Tomlinson Lead Vermont to Victory, Receive #AESD Weekly Awards

BOSTON – It was a light week in America East swimming and diving, with just two programs hitting the pool in the past seven days. Vermont improved to 4-2 on the season with a 172-118 victory over Bryant. The Catamounts have yet to lose a meet in their home pool this season. Virginia Military Institute, which is in its first year as an associate member of the conference, competed in its first home meet of the season.
 
Here are this week’s award winners:
 
Female Swimmer of the Week
Shannon Cowley, Vermont – Sr., Breaststroke, Ann Arbor, Mich.
  • Cowley won the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke and was part of the winning 200 medley relay team in Vermont’s win over Bryant Sunday
  • She touched the wall in times of 1:07.16 in the 100 and 2:26.20 in the 200
  • It is Cowley’s first #AESD Swimmer of the Week award of the season
 
Male Swimmer of the Week
John Kim, VMI – Sr., Backstroke, Fairfax, Va.
  • Won the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:53.50
  • Kim was part of two second-place relay efforts for the Keydets in the 400 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay
  • It is his first career #AESD Swimmer of the Week award
 
Female Diver of the Week
Haley Tomlinson, Vermont – Fr., Dives, Kensington, Md.
  • Tomlinson was victorious in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 227.40
  • The freshman also won the 3-meter dive with a score of 231.75
  • It is her second #AESD Female Diver award this season
