#AEMSOC Success Continues as Albany, UNH Receive NCAA Bids
INDIANAPOLIS - For the second-straight year and eighth time in conference history, America East will send multiple teams to the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. Albany and New Hampshire both received tournament bids when the field was announced during the NCAA selection show Monday. It's just the second time in conference history and first time since the 1990 and 91 seasons that a team received an at-large berth in back-to-back seasons.
Albany, the league champion, will play at Maryland in the first round Thursday night. This is the Great Danes second-straight NCAA appearance. The reached the third round of the tournament a year ago.
New Hampshire received one of the field's 24 at-large bids and will host Fairfield Thursday at 7 p.m. in its first NCAA appearance in 23 years. It is the second-straight year an America East team has received an at-large berth and a home game.
America East teams have fared well in NCAA play in recent years going 5-5-7 (.500) since 2010 and advancing 13 teams to the second round in the last 16 years. Last year, Vermont reached the second round and Albany reached the third round. In 2014, UMBC became the first America East team ever to reach the College Cup.
The conference finished regular season with a conference RPI of 5 after finishing 3rd last year.
