Stony Brook Stays Unbeaten in #AEVB Play, Garners Pair of #AEVB Awards
BOSTON – Stony Brook sits as the last unbeaten team in America East volleyball play following two weeks of action. The Seawolves’ 2-0 start is their first since 2014. Binghamton won twice last week to improve to 2-1 and is tied for second place with Albany and New Hampshire.

Player of the Week
Gaby Alicea, Binghamton – Jr., Outside Hitter, San Juan, P.R.
- Led Binghamton to two wins last week by averaging 4.4 kills per set, second most in the league.
- Had 21 kills in a 3-1 win over New Hampshire Sunday, just Binghamton’s second win over the Wildcats since 2012.
- This is Alicea’s first #AEVB Player of the Week honor of the season and second of her career (9/13/16).
Setter of the Week
LeAnne Sakowicz, Stony Brook – So., Setter, Waucondo, Ill.
- Averaged a league-best 11.1 assists per set in leading Stony Brook to just its second 2-0 start in #AEVB play in program history.
- Added 2.4 digs and .71 blocks per set.
- The Seawolves hit .237 as a team last week, second-best in the league.
- This is Sakowicz’s second #AEVB Setter of the Week honor of the season and second of her career (9/19).
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Kiani Kerstetter, Stony Brook – Fr., Libero, Cardiff, Calif.
- Contributed 5.3 digs per set leading Stony Brook to a pair of wins last week and just its second 2-0 start in conference play in program history.
- Helped SBU hold foes to league-best .103 hitting percentage as Seawolves went 2-0.
- This is the Kerstetter’s second career #AEVB Defensive Specialist of the Week award (9/19).
Rookie of the Week
Tatiana Tiangco, Albany – Fr., Outside Hitter, Scarsdale, N.Y.
- Ranked in the top 10 among league leaders last week with 2.9 kills per set.
- Had 12 kills to lead Albany to a win over UMass Lowell Saturday.
- This is Tiangco’s first career #AEVB Rookie of the Week award award.
