UMBC Sweeps First #AESD Weekly Awards of Season

BOSTON – The 2017-18 America East swimming and diving season is officially underway. Binghamton, Vermont, UMBC and VMI all competed last weekend. Vermont’s women’s team defeated Binghamton 165-97 to earn a season-opening victory in Burlington.
 
Here are the first weekly awards of the season:
 
Female Swimmer of the Week
Hania Moro, UMBC – Jr., Distance, New Cairo, Egypt
  • Helped UMBC to a comeback win over Seton Hall
  • Won the 200 free, 500 free and 1000 free in times of 1:54.71, 5:07.01 and 10:29.49, respectively
 
Male Swimmer of the Week
Ilia Rattsev, UMBC – So., Sprints, Moscow, Russia
  • Won three events in UMBC’s 167-128 victory over Seton Hall
  • Finished first in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free in times of 21.15, 45.82 and 1:40.44, respectively
 
Female Diver of the Week
Abigail Biddulph, UMBC – So., Egg Harbor City, N.J.
  • Finished second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives against Seton Hall
  • Earned scores of 212.18 in the 1-meter and 194.63 in the 3-meter
 
Male Diver of the Week
Elijah Wright, UMBC – Jr., Baltimore
  • Earned the top spot in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives against Seton Hall
  • Wright received a score of 240.75 in the 1-meter dive and a 234.98 in the 3-meter
 
Weekly Award Winners
Oct. 11 – Female Swimmer: Hania Moro, UMBC; Male Swimmer: Illia Rattsev, UMBC; Female Diver: Abigail Biddulph; Male Diver: Elijah Wright, UMBC
