5 Programs Post #AEVB Wins, Week #7 Awards Announced
BOSTON – Five programs won conference matches over the weekend and three teams are tied atop the league standings through two weeks of league play. Albany, New Hampshire and Stony Brook are all 3-1 one-third of the way through the league schedule
Conference play continues this weekend with six more matches. The majority of #AEVB conference matches will appear AmericaEast.TV, the place to watch free live content on any device, including the network's Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Android TV OTT channels. Here are the conference's week seven award winners:
Player of the Week
Kennedi Smith, New Hampshire – So., Outside Hitter, The Woodlands, Texas
- Led UNH to 5-set win over Stony Brook with an all-around impressive effort averaging 3.6 kills per game, .317 hitting percentage, 3.4 digs per set and .8 blocks per set.
- Totaled 18 kills and 17 digs in the win.
- This is Smith’s first #AEVB Player of the Week honor of her career.
Setter of the Week
Kelly Cameron, Albany – So., Setter, Cincinnati, Ohio
- Had 34 assists (league-best 11.3 aps) in a 3-0 win over Hartford Friday.
- Helped Albany lead league with .269 hitting percentage last week.
- Added 2.4 digs and .71 blocks per set.
- This is Cameron’s first career #AEVB Setter of the Week honor.
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Nicole Otero, Albany – Jr., Libero, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico
- Had 21 digs (league-best 7.0 dps) in 3-0 win over Hartford;
- Albany held the Hawks to a .164 hitting percentage.
- This is the Otero’s first #AEVB Defensive Specialist of the Week award of the season and ninth of her career.
Co-Rookie of the Week
Abby Nash, Hartford – Fr., Outside Hitter, Rocklin, Calif.
- Averaged 3.5 kps and 2.0 dps and had a career-best 19 kills in win over Binghamton.
- This is Nash’s first career #AEVB Rookie of the Week award.
Co-Rookie of the Week
Carmen Freeman, UMBC – Fr., Middle Blocker, Memphis, Tenn.
- Tied a career high 16 kills (league-best 4.0 kps) and added 9 digs in a win over Binghamton.
- This is Freeman’s fourth #AEVB Rookie of the Week award of the season
