BOSTON – Wins by New Hampshire men and women and Albany women highlighted last weekend in America East Indoor Track and Field. The men’s team for Albany finished second in the Cornell Upstate Challenge. The Vermont women’s squad finished second at Middlebury Winterfell and Stony Brook’s women’s team placed third in the Penn 8-Team Select meet.
Here are this week’s award winners:
Male Track Performer of the Week
Chris Gish, Vermont - Fr., Distance, Sharon, Vt.
- Won both the 1000-meter (2:34.31) and mile (4:16.61) in his collegiate debut in both events.
- Had over two seconds of padding in the 1000-meter victory as well as 1.98 seconds in the mile.
- Gish’s converted 1000 time (track size, 2:32.22) ranks third among all America East freshmen this indoor season. The mile time was converted from 4:19.88.
Male Field Performer of the Week
Eric DelVescovo, UAlbany - Sr., Throws, Ridgefield Park, N.J.
- DelVescovo won the shot put at Middlebury Winterfell in 53-11.25
- Broke his own school record of 52-10.00 set at Boston University Season Opener
- He has broken the school record twice in three meets
- Record at beginning of season stood for 27 years (52-08.25, Matthew Kiley, 1990)
- It is his second Field Performer of the Week award this season
Female Track Performer of the Week
Elinor Purrier, New Hampshire - Jr., Distance, Montgomery, Vt.
- Won the 800 meter run in a school record time of 2:07.49, beating the previous record by nearly two seconds.
- Her time is the seventh best time in the country this season.
Female Field Performer of the Week
Mary Adeyeye, UAlbany - Sr., Multis, Mohegan Lake, N.Y.
- Won the pentathlon at Cornell’s Upstate Challenge, scoring 3,293 points (converts to 3,314, 2nd AE)
- 60m HH: 9.27, 2nd, HJ: 4-10.25, 4th, SP: 39-11.50, 1st (7th AE), LJ: 16-01.50, t-4th, 800m: 2:34.99, 2nd
