BOSTON - Two weeks into the 2016 field hockey season, America East is joined by the ACC and Big Ten as the only conferences with at least three teams ranked in the NFHCA national poll. Reigning league champion Albany is #12, while Stanford is #14 and Maine is #20, entering the poll for the first time this week. Here are the week two award winners:
Player of the Week
Madison Cummings, Maine - Jr., Forward, Belfast, Maine
- Scored five goals in leading Maine to a pair of wins last week.
- Had a pair of goals in the Black Bears' 4-1 win over Hofstra Friday.
- Tallied a hat trick in a 7-3 win over Dartmouth Monday.
Defensive Player of the Week
Kelsey Rudert, New Hampshire - So., North Grafton, Mass.
- Recorded a 1.89 goals-against average and a .692 save percentage in two games last week.
- Made four saves and allowed just one goal in UNH's 2-1 overtime win vs. Harvard on Sunday.
Rookie of the Week
Jessica Welch, Stanford - Fr., Forward, West Long Branch, N.J.
- Scored twice in a two Cardinal games last week.
- Tallied a pair of goals in Stanford's 5-1 win over Kent State Sunday.
