BOSTON - Just three weeks into the season, both UMass Lowell and Hartford have already surpassed their 2015 win totals as the River Hawks won two more matches to improve to 5-5 while the Hawks won their third match of the year. Binghamton also won a pair of matches last week while UNH earned the conference's third win over a Power 5 conference, beating Rutgers. Here are the weekly award winners:
Player of the Week
Gaby Alicea, Binghamton, So., OH, San Juan, Puerto Rico
- Scored 41.5 points in three matches, hitting .329 on the weekend to rank fifth in the conference for the week.
- Averaged 3.00 kills per set, good for seventh in the league.
- Tied for second in the league after averaging 0.64 aces per set.
- Served seven aces, including six in a four-set win over Presbyterian
- Named to the All-Tournament Team at the Northeastern Invitational
Rookie of the Week
Chloe Evering, Albany, Fr., OH, San Marcos, Calif.
- Averaged 3.42 kills per set to rank third in the conference while hitting .310 on the week.
- Had 14 kills vs. UIC, 12 vs. DePaul and 15 vs. USF.
- Named to the DePaul All-Tournament Team.
Setter of the Week
Sarah Ngo, Binghamton, Jr., S, Franklin, Tenn.
- Ranked second in the conference, averaging 10.36 assists per set.
- Quarterbacked the Binghamton attack to a conference-best .233 hitting percentage.
- Also averaged 2.82 digs per set.
- Posted double-doubles in all three matches last week.
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Kristin Watson, UMBC, So., DS, Bowie, Md.
- Led the America East last week with 5.27 digs per set in a 2-1 week for UMBC.
- Helped UMBC hold opponents to a .166 hitting percentage, the second-best in the league last week.
