Stony Brook Draws Boston College in NCAA 1st Round

INDIANAPOLIS - America East women's lacrosse champions, the Stony Brook Seawolves, will take on Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass., in the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament first round. The full bracket was unveiled Sunday night during the selection show on NCAA.com. The NCAA announced the 26-team field that features 13 conference champions and 13 at-large bids.

The Seawolves, who earned the conference automatic bid for the fourth-straight season, will face the Eagles, who earned an at-large bid out of the ACC. The winner will face No. 4 seed Syracuse in the second round. Boston College will act as the host due to scheduling conflicts at Syracuse.

Eight sites will host first and second-round competition on May 13 and 15,  and four quarterfinal games will be played May 21 or 22. The winners of the four quarterfinal games will advance to the semifinals and final hosted by Saint Joseph’s University May 27 and 29 at Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia.  The semifinal games will be shown live on ESPN3 at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Eastern time, Friday, May 27.  The championship game will air live on ESPNU at Noon, Sunday, May 29.  

Stony Brook (16-3) won its fourth-straight America East title to earn the conference's automatic bid, beating Albany in a thriller, 10-9, on Sunday afternoon. Kasey Mitchell scored as time expired, breaking a 9-9 tie and earning the win for the Seawolves. The team has won NCAA games in two of the past three seasos, defeating Towson in both 2013 and 2014 in the first round. 

America East teams have five all-time wins. Stony Brook been in the round of 16 in each of the past three seasons, with first round wins in 2013 and 2014 and a bye to the second round last season.
