For the fifth time in the last 10 years, Binghamton captured the America East baseball regular-season title as the Bearcats completed a 19-5 conference season to claim the crown. The Bearcats also secured the No. 1 seed for next week's conference championship that will be held at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass., home to the UMass Lowell River Hawks and the Lowell Spinners, the single A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The remaining seeds and matchups for the 2016 championship were set Saturday, the final day of the regular season.
The tournament will be a six team, double-elimination format that will take place over four days from May 25-28. The winner will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Hartford will be the No. 2 seed, matching its best seed in program history, while Stony Brook will be No. 3, with UMBC No. 4, Albany No. 5 and Maine No. 6.
The tournament begins on Wednesday with No. 4 UMBC facing No. 5 Albany at noon and No. 3 Stony Brook taking on No. 6 Maine at 3:30 PM. The two losing teams will play an elimination game at 7 PM. The top seeds, No. 1 Binghamton and No. 2 Hartford, will be in action on Thursday, along with another elimination game.
