ALBANY, N.Y. -- University at Albany senior shortstop Maggie Cocks and junior catch Liz Snow have been named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 1 Softball Team, which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
To be nominated for CoSIDA Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials, have reached their sophomore year and have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA.
Maggie Cocks, a native of Walden, N.Y., boasts a 3.33 GPA as a physics major and was a 2015 America East All-Academic honoree. Cocks, a mainstay at shortstop, has started all 191 games in her four-year career. She has also rewritten some of UAlbany’s records offensively, ranking second for hits with 209, fifth for runs with 134 and sixth for home runs with 17. She is UAlbany’s all-time career leader for RBIs with 160 as well as doubles with 47. Cocks, a two-time First-Team All-America East selection and three-time all-conference pick, owns a .357 batting average with 50 hits, 35 runs, and co-leads the league with 42 RBIs in 44 games this spring.
Liz Snow, a native of Long Beach Calif., has maintained a 3.41 GPA majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology. A 2015 America East All-Academic Team pick and a two-time America East All-Conference selection, Snow leads the conference with a .442 batting average and 42 RBIs, and ranks 9th in the NCAA for slugging percentage (.885). Twice named the America East Player of the Week this spring, Snow has totaled 12 doubles, two triples, and 10 home runs so far this season. As a junior, she also ranks among UAlbany’s all-time career leaders for doubles (2nd - 39), home runs (4th - 25), RBIs (6th - 111), and hits (12th - 148).
First team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
