BOSTON - League play rolled on for six America East softball programs last weekend. Albany and Binghamton swept three-game sets from UMass Lowell and UMBC, respectively, while Maine and Stony Brook split a pair of games. Through two weeks, the Bearcats (6-0) and Great Danes (5-0) sit atop the conference standings. Read about this week's award winners below:
Player of the Week
Griffin McIver, Binghamton - Sr., DP, Endicott, N.Y.
- Hit .545/.583/1.182 in leading Binghamton to a 7-0 week.
- Belted four home runs and two doubles.
- Drove in 15 runs and scored 11.
Pitcher & Rookie of the Week
Chelsea Verdolivo, Albany - Fr., P, McKinney, Texas
- Went 2-0 while surrendering just one earned run in 12 1/3 innings of work last week.
- Allowed just three baserunners all week, giving up two hits and a walk.
- Fired a perfect game against UMass Lowell on Saturday.
- Struck out 11.
