Murphy, Ohlmiller Named Nominees for Tewaaraton Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A pair of America East women's lacrosse standouts, both from Stony Brook University, have been named 2016 Tewaaraton Award nominees. Courtney Murphy and Kylie Ohlmiller were both named to the 25-player list for the prestigious award announced Friday night.

Murphy is the nation’s leading scorer with 81 goals and best in Division I with 5.06 goals/game and 5.69 points/game. The junior attacker has scored four or more goals in 13 of 16 games this season She was was added to the April 29 nominee list.

Ohlmiller, the reigning America East Rookie of the Year, has tallied 37 goals and 35 assists and ranks eighth nationally in assists. The sophomore attacker is 11th nationally with 4.50 points/game. She was a preseason selection to the Feb. 23 watch list and was a nominee a year ago.

Five men’s and five women’s finalists will be selected from the group of 25, announced on Thursday, May 12, and invited to the ceremony. The 16th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held Thursday, June 2 in Washington, D.C., at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian.
