Two former America East women's lacrosse Players of the Year were selected in the inaugural United Women's Lacrosse League Draft, which was held on Wednesday night. Stony Brook University alum Demmianne Cook, the 2013 Player of the Year, was selected 27th by the Philadelphia Force, while Boston University alum and 2011 Player of the Year, Danielle Etrasco, was selected 28th overall by the Boston Storm.
Cook scored 158 goals in her two-year career with the Seawolves after transferring to Stony Brook prior to the 2012 season. The Nesconset, New York, native scored a program-record 90 goals as a senior in 2013 to help the Seawolves to their first NCAA tournament appearance and a first-round victory over Towson.
Etrasco was a three-time First Team All-Conference selection and scored 57 goals in 2011 on her way to being named the America East Player of the Year.
The United Women’s Lacrosse League begins its first season in late May with a four-team league consisting of teams based in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Boston and on Long Island. Cook’s Philadelphia team is coached by Penn State coach Missy Doherty.
