Stellar Pitching Highlights #AEBASE Week 3 Awards

BOSTON - Another strong week of America East baseball was highlighted by some stellar pitching performances as four different pitchers threw at-least six shutout innings. Six America East teams won a game and four teams won two in non-conference action.

Here are the week three award winners:

Player of the Week
Brendan Skidmore, Binghamton, Sr., Franklin, Mass.

  • Posted a 1.000 slugging percentage as three of his five hits went for extra-bases.
  • Hit two home runs in three games to go with two RBI.
  • Finished a three-game series at VMI with a .447 batting average (5-for-12) with a .533 on-base percentage.
  • Scored five runs in three games and drew a pair of walks.
  • Reached base twice in all three contests.
  • Also added a double and a pair of singles and did not commit a single error in 24 chances.

Co-Pitcher of the Week
Kyle Gauthier, Hartford, Sr., RHP, Lynn, Mass.

  • Tossed seven shutout innings in a 12-0 win over Radford.
  • Did not issue a single walk while picking-up four strikeouts.
  • Had a no-hitter going for 6.2 innings before issuing a hit.
  • Thre just 79 pitches.

Co-Pitcher of the Week
Andrew Ryan, UMass Lowell, So., RHP, Rochester, Mass.

  • Pitched seven innings of one-hit ball in 3-0 win against Delaware State
  • Only hit allowed came in 4th (single), at one point retired 10 batters in a row.
  • Recorded career-high 10 strikeouts with only three walks. The 10 strikeouts were the most by any River Hawk in the DI era. 

Rookie of the Week
Steve Passatempo, UMass Lowell, Fr., 1B, Medford, Mass.

  • Went 3-8 (.375) with two home runs at Bob Hannah Invitational.
  • Recorded an OBP of .615 and a 1.125 slugging percentage. 
  • Drove in two runs and score three for the weekend.
  • Did not commit an error in 32 chances.
  • Drew five walks, including three during final game.

Notes

  • Binghamton's Jake Cryts shutout VMI over seven innings while allowing just two hits in a no-decision.
  • Stony Brook's Tyler Honohan threw 6.2 innings of shutout baseball, allowing just one hit and striking out seven.
  • Hartford's 5-0 start was the best in the program's Division I history.
